    Feet & Fingers

     

    One would come to realise that they've been working too much when the only highlight of the day is that cup of flat white they get from that San Marimo espresso machine first thing at work everyday. Self-made. One and a half teaspoons of sugar. Raw, preferably.

    It's amazing how an addict like me still cherish these momentary caffeinated bliss for its taste rather than as an addiction need to stay awake. My recent preference for flat white over my regular choice of latte made me realise one thing. That i'm still as fickled as ever. Wether it be coffee or for the opposite sex. Even when the choice's been made. The mind still boggles.

    Flat white or latte?  Maybe i should just stick to Mocha for now. At least that way i'll be safe.

    And for that i definitely deserve the holiday to New Zealand with the other Pongsters. It's been a good 11 years now since i last visited NZ. With the only memory of that clear stream i squatted next to in the ouskirts of an unknown place, clad in my favourite Mickey Mouse tights and blue china shoes, sticking my fat itchy fingers into the flowing stream and wiggling it like a maniac because i thought it was fun. But what i remembered most was the little purple flowers that were free falling above me-just like it was snowing. It was beautiful. It's been 11 years, and still i could paint a drawing of what my 9 year old self saw that day in spring. I wanna be there again.

    In the mean time, mini contributions to my holiday funds?

    I know it's been a while, but i'm back in the workshop. Back for good. Just a small start up before the new site comes into play.

    Made this from a couple recycled pieces i found from my stash of what-nots. Mostly matte with a couple vertical wood pieces from an old arm-piece and finished off with 2 matte black resin pieces with fern detailings.

    I'm booking myself a luxe spa this week because i think i freaking deserve it.

    Even if it means throwing my 1 week paycheck into a pool of aromatherapy oils and rose water baths. I'm doin it.

    Thanx (or no thanx) to theMotherPong, spa sessions have always been a ritual that runs in the family. and after being deprived for so long, I'm already crying out loud for a good, long, old fashioned ritual.

    I'm lookin at a couple of places, but fourseasons and endota are looking pretty good.

    Just as long as my previous spa adventure with TheNomadPartner( read: 2 half naked girls in black disposable freakin G-strings, heaps perky, twin shower and twin hydro-massage in a couple deluxe suite trying hard not to LOL at the whole damn situation) does not go into play again. I'm all IN.

  • So how does it go again?

    It would've taken forever if that conversation didnt stop just there.

    I tried to put a halt to it, wether for temporary purpose or plainly to....forget. But who am i kidding. This conversation would play its reruns and rewinds just like a dead set recorder, pressing pause would kill and fast forwarding would only mean cheat. So i guess when the right time comes, i'll place my fingers on the record button, and re-record it like i want to.

    So this time when it plays, i'd get music to my ears. Music that i'd listen to till the day i reach my death bed.

    but for now. Let's just keep it at pause. Just hope it doesnt kill just yet.

    Cos where im at now, is pretty darn beautiful.

    Expect to search a lil harder for Bodega for it hides in the offshore streets of Surry Hills. Took us 2 rounds to spot it within the dark alley. Having not eaten a single grain the whole day, another round wouldve killed me good.

    I pointed at the guy behind the open kitchen and whispered to the guys. ' Oh, that's one of the owners'

    Instead of the OOH i was expecting, Howard had to pick on that poor guy, 'Oh, which one? U mean the one with the double chin?. I followed with a smack on his shoulder. I guess the queers are often more observant with extra chin layers and sorts. But still, poor fella. Kena for nothing.

    I loved the place even before i came here, the mural, the reviews, the Espanyol, the foooooddddd. I'm a sucker for tapas. Shove me 20 tapas and i'll happily chomp them all.

    Small menu but big ingredients. So expect no less.

    People say its not spanish if there's no Jamon. People meaning ME. I chose this from the menu even with my eyes closed. Because i love my Babi and because its so lovely.I chose it. Jamon Serrano is basically Babi cured and hung in mountains for months/years then sliced thinly to be served to people like me and you. If you havent tried Jamon Serrano then u havent lived your life. Says me. Sorry V, no babi for you.

    and may i add. this one was AWESOME.ZOMG. If you ever go to Bodega, eat your Jamon Serrano.

    This one was another lovely lovely. Zuchinni flowers are commonly stuffed with cheese: mascarpone ke goats cheese ke. Either way, cheese. But we couldnt figure what was inside this beauty after guessing lentils, eggplant, some cheese infused mash. All salah. the wait staff then corrected us- it was infact blood sausage.  Wow, even better. All 3 of us nod nod nod nod hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmmm. It was super lovely.

    The moroccan braised veal and cous cous was pretty substandard in taste but texture was amazing. The fat managed to cut off any excess hydration from the braising. Not the favourite dish but still good.

    This one which i thought sounded interesting from the menu description turned out to be the least appetizing. Especially with the part when our wait staff poured chilled gazpacho at our table from a small milk bottle over the cod like it was supposed to infuse all the flavours and celebrate together. i gave the biggest OOOHHH when she poured the gazpacho, sounding like a total dungu. but it ended up such a dissapointment. Blend would be the word.

    But all in all, Bodega is definitely my favourite tapas bar at the moment. Definitely recommended and definitely be seeing me there again..and again and again.....oh the love

    Bird Cow Fish

    I was in the neighbourhood, and with all the fuss I've been hearing about Bird Cow Fish:  I MUST EAT.

    I'd expected it to be some overpriced MILF concentrated high end sorta brasserie but was surprised really that it camouflaged amongst the modest local cafes around the area. To be honest, if not for their BIRD COW FISH signboard with their wiggly curly trademark font, i wouldnt even have notice it. Im glad i did though.

    We hopped in just before the lunch crowd typhoon, just a couple tables here and there with most audio output coming from the espresso machine and the chatting mother who was complaining about her 3 year old Dylan who stuffed banana pieces into his nostrils for breakfast. I'm just guessing. From the look on her face, i think i was close enough to the truth.

    Service was unpretentious, casual, educational even. Our turkish wait staff (or so i think) was thorough with the specials, flinging his hands way beyond necessary while he was describing some fish dish. Probably gay. We giggled throughout his 1 minute specials explanation. yeah. Giggled. To his face. Geez. -__-

    Prosciutto & Salami with buffalo mozzarella, fennel, grissini and aged balsamic

    This was probably the simplest most amazing prosciutto platter ive tasted. OHMYGOD. i absolutely loved it. The Buffalo was thankfully not too rich and that few dashes of balsamic totally transformed the entire palatte to a whole different level of awesomeneessssss.

    Its so good i would whip up a pirated version of this and put it into my future menu. But with the dish being so Babi concentrated and the desire for me to open a Halal place (so that my cousins can layan also), i guess tak jadi.

    Pan fried fillet of barramundi with a spiced tomato sauce, goat's feta and yoghurt cucumber raita

    Nicely pan fried. Yum. quite indian. Yum. tender. Yum. refreshing. Yum

    Seared thinly sliced pasture fed hanger steak with Montpellier butter & fries

    if there was anything negative to say about this, it would be the lack of salad. and thats about it.because it felt a lil too much chips after a while.

    but still I loved it. the steak was zomg. tender and juicy and delicious and mouth watering and

    yeah. it was good. oh yeah.

    To all Sydneysiders who hasnt tried Bird Cow Fish. Go try. its one of those places where ud walk out satisfied cos uve just had some of the simplest yummiest food around. Really.

    It was so blardy hot i almost lost interest in that kick arse 80's turquoise jumpsuit i spotted from a meter away. Just almost. The only thing i wanted to do at that time was to pour the 1litre of Evian i had in my hands onto my damn self so that i could feel the cool evaporation effect while i fly across the road to grab meself the piece before it magically dissapears in the hands of that brunette who was eyeing it so ghastly.....phoo, long sentence

    but yeah, just incase u guys were wondering, i scored it. Because i was so violent and brutal and 18SG i shall not even talk about it. . Its a tough world i tell ya. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.....

  • Not too much icing please

    The vast majority of my friends tell me that im emotion-less, not your average pink girl so to say. I didnt care about a lot of the lil things, didnt cry very easily, cold at times even. But i guess ive changed a lil over the years, not much, but a lil cupcake appreciation for example is a slight swerve to who i was previously. The person who once saw cupcakes as sugar wastage found them now to be quite delightful to the eyes. But still, not quite very yummy, the amount of sugar on the icing makes me sick. Really.

    Who to know but the person whom i least expected to hear from said that despite me not being the average pink girl, i wasnt entirely blue either. and i guess he was right in many ways. For someone who wished she was borned a boy and sits like the biggest ahpek in public places (just cos i hate crossing my legs), i guess im not all blue. Cos now i do care more about the people around me, i think about the next wrong step i might take, i think about the ppl that might suffer from the wrong step that i might take....

    ...and i do eat cupcakes, just well.... not the pink raspberry ones....

    and even better when im sharing cupcakes withthe people around me...
